If you’re unsure of how emergency contraceptives work, you’ve come to the right place. Emergency contraception is often misunderstood and carries a societal stigma that we hope to dispel. Preventeza™ is not the abortion pill. It will not work if you are already pregnant and will not affect an existing pregnancy. It is a backup method of pregnancy prevention that helps prevent pregnancy before it starts. Preparing yourself for the unexpected is as shameless as it gets!
So how does it work? Preventeza™ contains a hormone that has been used in many birth control pills for several decades just in a higher dose. That hormone, levonorgestrel, works mainly by stopping the release of an egg from the ovary. It is possible that the hormone may also work by preventing fertilization of an egg (the uniting of sperm with the egg) or by preventing attachment (implantation) of a fertilized egg to the uterus (womb).
Emergency contraceptives are nothing to be ashamed about; preparing yourself to be in control is a decision you can be proud of.
